Easy To Please

first tomatoes100

Our garden is amazing.  Last week the tomato production started and the salads and pasta dishes are incredible – who knew a fresh picked tomato could make my day.

As each week passes this summer, it seems I’m easier to please.  It takes less to make my day.  And often it’s the littlest things that give me such gratification that just the awareness of it feels like a prayer.  Perhaps having gratitude is a prayer.  Never thought of it that way before.  Perhaps every time we acknowledge what is good about the day, what we feel pleasure about, when we compliment another person or express our love for them it’s a prayer.  I like that.

What a great motivation to keep thanking my Higher Power for even the littlest things throughout my day.  It’s a habit for me now anyway, and this new awareness of these statements as prayers makes me smile.  See – new awarenesses come to us out of nowhere, unexpected and unannounced.  This is what keeps my mind open, my perspective fresh and my attitude in gratitude and anticipation.  Thank You God.

Prayer and Meditation

 teepee-at-sunset-wheelwright-museum-santa-fe-new-mexico1

Years ago I heard that ” prayer is talking to God, and meditation is listening to God. ”  Step 11 tells us that using both methods will improve our conscious contact with God.

Prayer or speaking to God came up yesterday with several people, two of whom recited the St. Anthony prayer, ” Dear St. Anthony, Something’s lost and must be found, help us find it, come around.”  In both cases the item or person missing was located within a minute.  I got the message that this prayer will help me find someone who’s missing – if it’s God’s will that they be found.  God’s will isn’t always the same as mine, which brings some reluctance for me about praying for it.  Even so, experience proves that I get what I need everytime.

Meditation was something I started doing in college, and then renewed early in the program.  To learn how to do it I talked to others about how they meditate, went to guided meditations at centers and churches, went on spiritual quests to holy places in other countries and have had what many would call supernatural spiritual experiences that reconfirm for me the existence of a Higher Power in big “aha” ways.  And if I listen and look for them, I see small daily confirmations – evidence of God’s presence in my life and the live’s of others.

Prayer and meditation makes this evidence possible when we do it.

Attitude

Church

Framing the day makes all the difference in my attitude.  Waking to the day starts with a gratitude list, meditation and The Course In Miracles.  The prayer is the 3rd Step prayer –

“God I offer myself to Thee, to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.  Relieve me of the bondage of self that I may better do Thy will.  Take away my difficulties that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy power, Thy love and Thy way of life.  May I do Thy will always.”

Then I feed the cat and start my activities.  Sometimes I really don’t want to pray that prayer, because I want what I want when I want it.  However, if I can get out of myself just long enough to remember that when I turn things over to a Higher Power my life happens effortlessly, saying the prayer is a breeze.  I get what I need which is often much better than what I wanted anyway.  It really means that I got out of fear, and into love.

Then I can focus on expecting miracles!  Saying affirmations changes my attitude in an instant if I get off track.  So quick!  So simple!
