Joining

When a partner is upset about something that we are going through, they are joining with us.  It doesn’t mean that either of us is necessarily walking around in a pity party, however it does mean that we are empathizing regarding the facts of the situation and the impact these may be having in our lives.

And it’s nice to know that we aren’t alone in the challenges that present themselves in our lives.  Life happens and my experience is that things always work out somehow.  Having the companionship of someone who loves us and is invested in our success is a lovely gift.  A treasure.

It’s also lovely to be on the joining end, when we empathize with our partner and let them know that we value them and want the best for them.  It may seem like a small thing, but it’s one of the many ways that we can be of service to another person.  And who better than the most important people in our lives.  I’m learning how to acknowledge my partner through both the uplifting, happy times and the challenging, sad times.  It’s an honor.

Without Knowing It

Without meaning to I embarassed someone whom I care about.  It’s not what I meant to do, but I need to take responsibility for causing that harm.

And I made amends for my thoughtless remark this morning, within a minute of saying it.   My apology was accepted, but the damage seemed to be done for the next hour or so.  We were both off balance for a while.  And I sincerely regret my words.

Think!  It’s one of the slogans, or is it Think First?  Well, in either case thinking before we speak or do something that we may regret is a helpful habit to get into.  And this morning was a good lesson for me.  I’ve put myself on notice to consider others more conscientiously before speaking so that instead of causing harm, I can cause good and be comfortable with the impact my words and actions have in the world.

Taking Care Of Business

Sometimes I find myself in situations that involve other people who aren’t showing up.  In the past, my focus would have been on how to get them to show up.  Not anymore.

Experience has been teaching me that the only person whom I need to be responsible for is me.  That means I show up and mind my own business regarding the other people.  It can still feel uncomfortable at times to do this, but most of the time it’s a natural next step to just take care of my side of the street.

Today was just such a situation.  And instead of delaying my own tasks for some time to follow up on the person who didn’t show up, I stayed on schedule and did my part as promised.  The other person will take care of their own part.  And meanwhile, I didn’t have any need to develop a resentment because I didn’t let others impact me, or delay me, or inconvenience me in any way.  All went well and my day was pleasant and productive.  I even finished a project that’s been delayed for a few months.  Yeh me!  That is more progress thanks to the tools of the Program.  Life is so much easier, simpler and successful when I practice the principles in all my affairs.

Unexpected Bounty

Thanks to sharing from a friend, it looks like we’ll be taking in two renters if all works as expected.  This means even greater peace of mind for me financially as it will help make the mortgage payment.  However, having two new people in the house may be unsettling at the same time.

My husband is the only person I’ve lived with in 20 years or so and the idea of having others here daily is a little daunting considering the size of our home.  On the other hand, it’s a great opportunity for me to learn more about sharing and letting go of control.  Actually, it’s a great adventure if I keep the right attitude about it.

Meanwhile, it also means getting several things done around the house in preparation for housemates.  Much of that is about decluttering my past out of this space.  I found papers from one of my past jobs yesterday and wasn’t sure they should be pitched.  Today I’m sure and happy to pitch them.  The whole prospect is now pretty motivating and that feels good.  I am so blessed with the solutions that continue to show up for me.  Trust in a Higher Power is what helps me keep focused on receiving these unexpected, although requested assists in life that allow me to stay on the path and be of service.  It’s a rich way to live for which I’m grateful.

Light At The End Of The Tunnel

The past month has been a journey of adjustment and focusing on solutions.  And I’m still in the process.

Little by little, solutions are taking shape.  My books are ordered for school and the bill will be paid by scholarship.  Thank You God.  The decluttering process is still happening – I’ll be picking up the pace starting today or tomorrow for the yard sale and sale of larger items online.  Financial advising solutions are in process and we’re approaching the 1/3 mark on the way to resolution.  The heat wave and humidity high has broken and we’re enjoying perfect sleeping weather.  And I just picked up another client yesterday.  These are all good markers of progress to set us up for success over the next year.

We may have to take in a renter to make ends meet, which is an extreme measure that many homeowners are turning to these days.  I’m investigating exchange student options as well as advertising at a seminary school down the road.  And we can always use the internet to find a renter if need be.  It will mean some additional adjustment, and I’m willing to do it to pay the bills.  It’s not a permanent situation.  Just temporary, until more money comes in and I’m working full time and done with school.  Knowing there’s light at the end of the tunnel fuels my willingness to take extra measures and also preserves my peace of mind.  These are investments in our future.  If all works out, I’ll be done with school at this time next year and working full time in my new career choice.  That is a short-term goal to continue working toward, and I can do it.

Affirmation for the Day – ” I am making good progress. ”

Full Moon Mystery

Half of my sponsees called yesterday.  This is an unusual occurence.  Each of them shared that they felt off balance, or a little crazy, or were doubting themselves.  Fortunately for all of us, I was in a good place and able to be present.

In each case they seemed to be falling for some old “bait,” – something that triggers them to feel less than, or revert to old behaviors that don’t serve them well.  And they were all a bit upset with themselves about what was going on – until they achieved some clarity about the situation.  In some cases they became clear just by talking it through while I asked them a few questions and just listened.  The other sponsees and I had a little more involved conversations, and they too found some clarity and realized that they’d fallen into an old habit.  With these awarenesses they all appeared to snap out of it and were relieved to know what had happened.

Only at the end of each conversation did I remind each of them that the next day was the full moon.  Now that may not mean much to some people, but my experience is that it can have a real and tangible effect on some people.  Police forces have documented the increase in crime, domestic disturbances and other calls during the full moon.  In the case of my sponsees, many of them are in the midst of some stressful life events.  So, all this means is that it’s helpful for us to be aware that we may be a bit more vulnerable around a full moon, or when we have financial issues, or when we’re grieving, or in transition.  Awareness is half the solution.  Outfitted with that awareness we can then tune in to the special self care remedies that keep us serene, rested, well fed and spiritually fit.  In this condition it’s easier to avoid the “bait” of other people, places and situations that used to trap us.  That was then, this is now and we have tools, and sponsors and others in the program to reach out to for grounding, centering support.  The full moon can then be enjoyed as the beautiful natural mystery that it shows up as each month.  It’s one of the things that makes me smile and feel that all is well.

Tomatoe Time

Last week I harvested the first of the summer tomatoes.  Beautiful little yellow pear, round yellow golf ball sized, and meaty green and red fist sized tomatoes are just starting to ripen.  I don’t know all their names, but they are such a treat to eat.

Although other crops in the garden are out of production, the tomatoes are making their best show late in the season.  I’d really lost touch with what was happening out there with the distraction of school and so many other pressing matters involving challenge.  Now that I’ve reached out for help regarding the money matters there is an abundant response from friends, agencies and the universe to find us the assistance we need to secure solutions.  We still have some areas of challenge, but there is a temporary plan and it requires doing one thing at a time, in order, to reach a positive conclusion.

The tomatoes are a sign of continued abundance despite the exhaustion of other crops.  And they are beautiful gems of all sizes.  Colorful and scrumptious, they fill our plates with nourishment and a delightful sight at our table each day.  I’m focusing on the abundance instead of the illusion of lack, and the abundance is not disappointing.  It’s an inspiring reminder of how what we focus on grows and multiplies.  We are very blessed indeed.
