Sticking To The Facts

A mentor of mine in business taught me that when resolving issues in the workplace it’s important to stick to the facts of the situation.  That means no emotions, no finger pointing or blame, no opinions.

In our personal affairs as well, we can take a clear inventory of what the facts are, keeping the emotions out of it and address situations from a practical perspective.  It can be helpful to keep in mind that our emotional reaction is often based on past experiences that have little if anything to do with the situation at hand.  That reaction can keep me from having clarity about what’s important.  When I work Steps 1, 2 and 3 on the issue admitting I’m powerless and my life is unmanagemable, remember that a power greater than me can restore me to sanity, and make the decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understand God “I” seem to shift in the situation so that I can respond.

God does for me what I cannot do for myself, helping me to respond appropriately based on a more realistic perspective of the situation.  The solutions seem to come easier.  They’re simpler.  Life gets easier in general, and it takes less physical and emotional energy for me to work through the resolution process.  Sometimes, the solution just appears and I don’t have to do anything to resolve the situation.  Those are the miracles of the program and are listed on my gratitude list the next day.  Thank You God.

The Next Right Thing

Working the 3rd Step came up with a new person recently.  They wondered how they’d know if they were accomplishing what the step asks us to do.  Good question.

“Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understood him.”  I see that as a conscious decision, because so much of our lives prior to the program were unconscious or on automatic pilot – usually unhelpful, which often got me in trouble.  My goal is to make new, conscious choices that are helpful which includes turning things over to a Higher Power.

What next?  We just do whatever is the next right thing in front of us to do to take care of us.  Making the bed, eating breakfast, going to work, minding our own business, being of service, asking for help, opening the mail, paying the bills, going to a meeting.  We do what is in front of us to do and our Higher Power takes care of the rest – all we need to do is get out of the way, begin to trust – let Go and let God.

Course In Miracles Lesson – Forgiveness is the key to happiness.

Practice – Forgiveness is the key to happiness.  I will awaken from the dream that I am mortal, fallible, and full of sin, and know I am the perfect Son of God.
