Spirit Home

Last Sunday I attended a meeting which felt like coming home again.  When I was new in the program (only a few months in) another member shared with me about a meditation meeting she attended weekly at a local nondenominational church.  Anyone was welcome.  It was a guided meditation which was perfect for me as a relative newcomer to the meditation process and it opened new horizons for me spiritually.

That meditation group was the first in many steps on my spiritual quest, which continues today.  Those steps have led me to Native sweat lodges, Himalyan caves, foothill Ashrams, yurts at the base of the Grand Tetons, channelers near Garden of the Gods, cliff dwellings by Four Corners, tea houses in botanic gardens, Medjugorge Catholic pilgrimaging, Elk meadows mountain trails, Unity churches in Florida, Colorado and Minnesota, Mormon churches, Jewish Temples, Buddhist meditation centers, First Universalist churches, several other nondenomicational churches, and numerous other encounters with spiritual people and other spiritual beings.  I came to the planet rather mystically, already predisposed to premonitions, extreme sensitivity and knowingness about people even as a toddler.  I remember it.  No one told me about it.  I came this way.

Now I let that knowing part of me lead me to where Spirit dwells here and there in my home town.  I’m not saying that it isn’t in all of us.  It’s just that there are certain places where I sense it more strongly than others.  Where I resonate with the members, or the site more clearly.  It is in those places that my spirit is nurtured and encouraged to spring forth in a stronger more powerful way with the Divine.  It is those places to which I’m drawn, and drawn to return.  That’s what I encountered last Sunday.  The 11th Step says we sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact…  There is no judgement in the Step about where we do that.  How wonderful!  Everyone is included from whatever faith or tradition or belief!  How divine.

Blessings

One of my sponsees got married today.  She called on her way to their small courthouse ceremony in happy tears, moved by the love she feels for her now husband.  She reminded me of all the happy tears I’ve shed for the many blessings and miracles in my life and the love I’ve felt for my husband these past several years.

And the greatest joys of my life have been shared with my husband.  Trials and all, we have celebrated moments of love and laughter, adventure and tenderness that surpass my former imaginings of what a loving relationship could be like.  For the many lovely moments shared with him I am eternally grateful.

And now, I thank Spirit/God in advance for the many moments yet to come for us.  The thought of it moves me to more happy tears and gratitude for blessing us with these precious times of beingness on the planet.  I hope that my sponsee and her new husband in their life together have the same joyful partnership events that I’ve been blessed to share with my husband.

New Business

We have two new jobs from the past 2 days and I am grateful.  Meanwhile, there is additional business that seems to be ours once, we deliver the bids.  Then we can schedule more work for us and the laborers we employ.

And there is other personal work, and paperwork to complete the past year.  It is a time of following up to finish old business, and also a time to open new doors.  For me that starts next week as my internship commences and this next chapter in my career manifests in a more concrete manner.  It is still via baby steps, and that feels comfortable for now.  Although, if called upon to do so, I would be willing to jump in with both feet and tread water as necessary.

But my focus usually stays on what we have to be grateful for and celebrate each and every day.  The blessings abound.  Fortunately for me, my sponsors and good friends in the program have taught me how to find the silver lining, the bluebirds of happiness that show up when we least expect them to – if we look for them.  I have an expectation of good in my life and also for those whom I know.  Tough times can turn around on a dime and shower us with miracles, large and small.  My life is full of those miracles.  Thank You God, Thank You God, Thank You God.

Blessings

We are booked out 3 weeks for business right now.  This is a miracle – truly due to our Higher Power.  By next week we may be booked out about a month.  And we’ve only been at this for a little over a month.  Thank You God.  We’re doing what’s in front of us to do, and my husband is working long hours.  What’s more, we are honored to be able to offer work to other families as he needs help and the amount of work coming in requires a crew of at least 3 people now.  We’re in awe.

The other night we both shared with each other that fear had come calling at the door of our consciousness recently.  For me, it was like a little trick  suggesting that the work coming to us might not last – I saw the fear and let it go and thanked God for our blessings, recommitted to trusting in my Higher Power.  For my husband it came in the form of negative self talk telling him that he didn’t deserve all of the new jobs.  We discussed the falsehood of this thought which he hadn’t really recognized as negative self talk, and reached the point of seeing that we are both God’s handiwork and we deserve to have good things come to us.  We want to share the good with others and that means even more honoring of our Higher Power.

What a blessing that we have the teachings of the 12 Step programs to remind us that when we live by the principles of the Programs life gets better.  And we deserve it.  We have been through a lot in the last few years.  We have been willing to work on ourselves and accept the challenges and focus on gratitude for the blessings.  We ended our discussion with a prayer of gratitude for what we are receiving, and a request for guidance and direction as we go forward.  Sharing that time together was my favorite time of the week.

Practicing

My husband was a little embarassed by that last posting.  He thought I was just bragging about him and didn’t initially see that what I was focused on is my gratitude for all of his hard work and how just doing what’s in front of us to do helps us make progress.  The programs tell us this, and it’s up to us to take the action.

I’m happy to report that after the nine assignments, tests and presentations that were due last week and the three interviews, I have good news and more gratitude.  A few hours after my third interview on Saturday I was offered a practicum position!  It’s located closest to home and school, and it will have more than enough hours for me to finish my masters degree on time!  I may even be able to finish a little early.  And we have two more contracts signed to start this week and another bid to do.  Okay so obviously I’m stuck on a theme this week.  This is all the result of our Higher Powers taking care of everything while we focus on the tasks before us each day.  There were a few moments in the past week when a little fear flashed across my screen tempting me to doubt.  I think my husband had a round with it too.  But for both of us it was fleeting.  And fear didn’t stop either of us from doing what needed to be done.

There was a time where it would have been easy to grab onto that fear and ride it out to the unpleasant state of lack of serenity and insanity.  No thanks.  Not interested.  Nor does that mean that we can get cocky and arrogant about our blessings and good fortune to date.  It was only a month and a half ago that we didn’t know how we would pay the bills.  We’re making good progress, and we have more to do.  Sometimes I still feel like such a beginner.  When we are out of debt, then we will celebrate in a big way.  Meanwhile, we have small celebrations, hugs, prayers of gratitude, passing on any jobs we aren’t capable of doing to others in our network of friends and colleagues.  And we’re doing our best to carry the message and practice the principles of the program in all areas of our lives, daily.

Working Hard

We are both working so hard between work and school and unexpected things to attend to.  And I really want to give credit to my husband today.  He has been going over and above the call of duty.  This week alone, he didn’t make it home before 9:30 – 10 pm. three nights, and he’s been working six days a week.  He’s amazing!

And he’s taking such good care of us.  His commitment to getting our bills paid, and doing excellent work for our customers is outstanding.  I’m so proud of him.  He is still the hardest working man I’ve ever met and I’m so blessed.  He starts early, gets to work before his laborers to make sure everything is ready for them to get started off right.  He sets a great example for them, which builds loyalty.  They know they can count on him.  I know I can count on him too.  I hope he feels the same about me.  We are both working together to make progress and focus on the solutions that will move us forward to a good place financially.

Watching my husband strive to make a good life for us and take care of what needs attention is awe inspiring and I’m not easily impressed.  In between all of the hard work he has been doing thoughtful things for me, a special bowl of our favorite soup, a pep talk before my interviews this week and big hugs and smiles to cheer me on when I was a bit unsure.  He’s amazing again.  He is a blessing in my life and I am so grateful for all of the little, and big things he does each week to take such good care of us.  Thank You God, Thank You God, Thank You God.

Mid-Term Moments

This week has been very busy!  Seven papers, one exam, one presentation, three interviews for internship positions, a stint in the emergency room after last week’s untimely meeting with an attic rafter that left my forehead with an egg size hematoma and many walk-throughs to do bids for the business.  A few other minor events as well and my energy level needs replenishing.   However, there are still two more papers to write by tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there’s much to be grateful for – the doctors assure me there is not also a hematoma beneath the skull, one more class is over, there are more bids to do for additional business, my husband installed a new thermostat in the car so the engine wouldn’t blow, I was offered and accepted a practicum position that will have more than enough hours for me to finish by August, my husband’s truck will be fixed on Monday, and we were able to pay most of our bills this month.  Thank You God!

Now considering that just a month ago we didn’t know how we were going to pay our bills alone, things have really been falling into place.  I give the credit to our Higher Powers.  We’ve only done what’s in front of us and then some when required.  We haven’t had time to figure it all out.  One day at a time, we’ve done the work that our Higher Powers have put in front of us to do, and there has been daily progress.  Everything is falling into place, little by little, unexpectedly, surprising us with synchronistic style.  Miracles.  Daily.  And more blessings await us around the corner when we just stay in the moment and focus on today!
