Good Attitude

Attitude can be everything.  It can make our day, or just as clearly ruin it.  It’s up to us.

So what do we do if our attitude needs adjusting?  People have taught me to do my Gratitude List every morning to frame my day, call a program member if my attitude is bad and talk about it because sometimes that’s all it takes to get the “baditude” out of me, or go to a meeting, or read a passage of program literature, or go for a walk to get the seratonin going in my brain or pop in Louise Hay’s “You Can Heal Your Life” movie and my attitude is transformed often in seconds.  Really!  In seconds!

We don’t ever have to stay in a place of “Stinking Thinking.”  An “Attitude of Gratitude” is only a few seconds away – if we choose it.  It’s a choice.  Even for those of us who suffer from depression – yes, we too can choose to take action that will help us move through the mood.  Last year I learned that each time we habitually self medicated with alcohol we were depressing the production of seratonin in our brains.  When we sober up, we need to help stimate the production of seratonin again.  Getting exercise can often do just that, returning seratonin to a productive level that sustains us in sobriety.  In most cases there is hope, even if it involves medical intervention - we need to choose to take action that will restore our attitude and keep us focusing on gratitude.  We can always ask for help – it’s our choice.  People are ready to be there for us and share the good attitude.
